Boey Kok Fai, Sean General Manager TÜV SÜD PSB (Thailand) |
I joined TÜV SÜD PSB in 1991 as a Technical Officer. I began my career in the company, assisting the establishment of the EMC testing facilities led by then Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (SISIR). Over the past 17 years, I have been involved in various roles and responsibilities covering EMC testing, sales and marketing, setting up PSB Test Thailand, and integrating and managing TUV SUD PSB’s Thailand office.
Back in January 2004, I was also awarded a scholarship by former PSB Corporation to pursue a part-time Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at the Asia Institute of Technology, Thailand. I am grateful for the opportunities given to me over all these years, allowing me to make significant progress in tandem with the company changes, from SISIR to PSB Singapore to PSB Corporation, to the establishment of PSB Test Thailand, and the rebranding and integration of TÜV SÜD’s services in Thailand to form TÜV SÜD PSB Thailand in 2007.
My current position as General Manager of TÜV SÜD PSB covers services in Product Testing for Food, Medical Devices, Environmental, EMC and Electrical Safety; Auditing for Management Systems and Medical Devices; and Inspection and Engineering Services.
My typical day at work would be holding meetings and discussion sessions with both my operational and support staff in the various departments. I am regularly involved in joint visits and activities with TÜV SÜD PSB’s overseas colleagues, local partners and key customers; including award ceremonies for Certification programs at our clients’ premises.
One of my most satisfying experiences in the company would be setting up the office of PSB Test Thailand in 2002 with two local staff at the Thailand Science Park. It was the very first overseas laboratory investment for the former PSB Corporation. The Thailand office has grown from strength to strength, with established labs in Food testing, Electrical safety, and Environmental and EMC testing. Together with the support from our overseas colleagues, we have created a dynamic, service oriented and dedicated workforce, overcoming different business culture and language barrier, providing me with the most memorable personal experience.
Other memorable experiences include having the honor of a Royal visit by Princess Maha Chakri Srindhorn of Thailand to our company's premises in 2003 during the Royal Opening of the Thailand Science Park and our company's official opening in October 2002 officiated by then Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Khun Korn Dabbanransi, then Thailand Minister of Science and Technology, Khun Pinit Charusombat; and Singapore's Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. George Yeo. It was the first for the company to have three distinguished Ministers officiating at the official opening.
